Little Local - April 2

Easter weekend egg hunts & events for the long weekend

New to Little Local? Subscribe here.

We have an extra-long weekend coming up with Easter, so I’ve rounded up local activities and egg hunts. Lots of great events, including Sooke’s Easter Egg Hunt (separated by age 🙌) and a new Easter festival at Willow’s Beach Park.

It’s also supposed to warm up this weekend, so it feels like the right time to bring back our Low Tide Reports. Not that kids need warm weather to make it a beach day…

Let’s hop to it!

Easter Egg Hunts

We typically do a big egg hunt in the backyard each Easter. The last couple of years we’ve been in Vancouver with family, with a full gaggle of kids ranging from 1.5 to 7. What’s worked really well is assigning each kid a colour, and those are the eggs they’re hunting for. It keeps things less competitive, and you can easily adjust the difficulty depending on the kid 😈.

If you’d rather leave the hiding to someone else this year, here are some great egg hunts happening around town:

🐣 Easter Festival at Willows Beach (Saturday, April 4 | 10am–2pm): Celebrate spring by the ocean at Willows Beach Park with Easter-themed fun, family activities, and festive outdoor entertainment.

🥚 Lion’s Easter Eggstravaganza (Saturday, April 4 | 11am–2pm): Join Esquimalt Recreation & the Lions Club for the Eggstravaganza of the year! Enjoy egg hunts, games, and cheerful community fun at Bullen Park.

🐇 Neal Estate Group Easter Egg Hunt (Saturday, April 4 | 10am–12:30pm): A long-running local favourite at Elk/Beaver Lake with face painting, cupcake decorating, and more. The egg hunt starts right at 11am (and goes fast), with 20,000+ chocolates and prizes. By donation in support of BC Children’s Hospital.

🐰 Easter at Royal Bay (Saturday, April 4 | 11am–2pm): Head to Royal Bay for a family-friendly Easter celebration with egg hunts (two age groups), bouncy obstacles, music, cookie decorating, snacks, and more! Families can start lining up no earlier than 10:15am.

🥚 Sooke Pemberton Holmes Easter Egg Hunt (Saturday, April 4 | 10am–12pm): Hunts are split by age group: toddlers under three at 10am & 11am, ages four to eight at 10:20am & 11:30am, and ages nine to 12 at 10:40am & 11:40am.

🐣 Easter Egg Hunt (Sunday, April 5 | 1–2pm): Hop over to Dominion Brook Park in North Saanich for a festive family egg hunt. Kids can search for hidden eggs, meet the Easter Bunny, and enjoy games and activities. Hunt starts at 1pm sharp.

Affordable Day Camps

If you’re looking for a fun, classic summer camp without the big price tag, this is a camp series worth considering.

Saanich’s SNPP day camps run in neighbourhood parks and are all about outdoor play. There will be games, playground adventures, creative projects, and water play on warm days! It’s a rain or shine, and your kids will definitely come home happy and tired.

Why parents love these SNPP camps:
• One of the most affordable options (with payment plans available)
• Fully outdoors, with bikes, scooters, and roller skates welcome
• A great mix of structured activities and free play
• Close-to-home park locations across Saanich

Registration for Saanich day camps opens on April 8th at 6am.
